100,000+ MEALS SERVED!
In March 2020 O'side Kitchen Collaborative decided to change gears and focus our efforts on feeding those in need during the Covid-19 pandemic. We put together a veteran crew of food handlers and executive directors to start the relief project and after a few weeks of success, the City of Oceanside decided to fund 500 meals everyday for 2 months! The OKC started by employing local business owners and laid-off employees connecting the program to thousands of local individuals in need. Media coverage was soon to catch wind of our success and exposed the OKC to tens of thousands of local people sending in donations to help feed more and more people in need!
With a combination of the City of Oceanside's funding, our community partners donations, other privately sourced funding and weekly food donations from US Foods the "OKC Dream Team" started serving over 2,000 meals per day! After only 3 months, working 7 days per week, running 2-3 shifts per day we have surpassed 100,000 meals served to those in need!. Now that is something to celebrate!
MEET DUWARA CONSCIOUSNESS
Our Community Partner, Duwara Consciousness, operates the first and only food truck giving away food to those in need. O'side Kitchen Collaborative supplies nutritious plant-based burrito "meat" that is rolled on site and handed out to a line of hundreds of people in the heart of San Diego. 16th and Imperial is the current space used to distribute daily and Duwara has served tens of thousands of people with these nutritious burritos during the Covid19 pandemic.
Duwara also operates the first and only shower trailer with ADA compliant showers and a washer / dryer to help clean clothes and blankets for those in need. We have been so impressed by Duwara's ground breaking, trail blazing down the path we need to assist our growing homeless population in San Diego. LOCAL BUSINESSES DONATE FOOD FOR COVID-19 RELIEF
The OKC has received thousands of pounds of food donations from Oceanside restaurants to relieve those effected by the Covid-19 pandemic. We are all in this together! Viable food excess is now being directed to those in need through the Green Oceanside Kitchen and O'side Kitchen Collaborative's partners. A HUGE thanks to Anita's, Bagby, Barrel Republic, Beach Break Cafe, Breakwater, Burlap & Barrel, Dr. Bronners, Flying Pig, Jitters Coffee, Living Tea, Millers Table, Mraz Family Farms, Panca Peruvian, Petite Madeline, Prager Brothers, Privateer, Senior Grubby's, The Goods Donuts, URBN Water, The Whet Noodle, Wrench & Rodent, and so many more!
OKC PARTNERS WITH LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS TO DISTRIBUTE FOOD TO THOSE IN NEED OF RELIEF
In order to deliver food safely to those in need the OKC has partnered with local non-profit organizations to deliver chef quality meals to food insecure individuals within the tri-city area (Oceanside, Vista & Carlsbad). Without these amazing organizations as our partners our collaborating chefs would not be able to supply more than 1,000 meals per day. Team work makes the dream work and we are eager to work with more outreach organizations. If you work with an at risk community in need please contact us! OKC CHEFS BRING GOURMET MEALS TO THOSE IN NEED DUE TO COVID-19
Executive Chef Felix Alicade & Operations Director Mike Perez are no stranger to disaster relief. For the previous 3 years they have been deployed all over the country to work with FEMA and other local non-profits to support those in need. Food relief is always the first line of defense and can provide people with more than just food. The common relief efforts are full of pre-packaged processed foods with simple meals like peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, etc. While any relief effort helps raise the spirits of those effected by disaster, the OKC's vision is to shatter the status quo with our culinary offerings. A great example of this is our Bacon & Veggie quiche with side salad and roasted eggplant!
